$9 million approved for CWA terminal project

The Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee will undergo a terminal building addition.

Gov. Scott Walker announced in a press release this afternoon the project will receive $9 million.

The multi-story west terminal addition and renovation is the first of a proposed three phase terminal project at CWA.

According to the release, construction on the west addition is underway and expected to be completed by October 2013.

The funding breaks down as: state ($500,000), Marathon and Portage Counties ($2 million) and FAA ($6.5 million).

Airport officials have been working on a project to expand the airport for several years. Because of the economy, it took a while to get things moving. Now that day is finally here.

This announcement is just the first of three phases. The second phase will renovate the east terminal, and the third phase will combine them into one large terminal.

"It will be a bigger terminal," says Tony Yaron, Airport Administrator. "It's going to be roughly double its current size. But get this, it's going to be about half of operational cost."

Airport officials hope to have everything finished by fall of 2015.
