Lt. Jacob Tripp has been organizing a Thanksgiving meal in Wausau for those in need for more than two years.
He said making a difference in people's lives is what his job is all about.
"The thought of somebody going without is a hard one to handle, because it's here, we just have it for them to take," said Tripp.
The Salvation Army is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner this Wednesday.
Tripp said it's an opportunity to help those who otherwise wouldn't get a meal.
"There's definitely a large number of people that go without meals and I think it just really has to doing with not being aware of what's available," said Tripp.
Volunteers and workers at the Salvation Army said it's their way of giving thanks.
"I do it because I enjoy it, simple as that," said Clarence Lane.
The work has already started in the kitchen, including prepping the turkey and the stuffing.
Organizers at the Salvation Army said when it comes to helping this Thanksgiving holiday, there's still plenty to do.
"We've got a bunch of food that now needs to be put on our shelves and just helping with that and getting stuff to go into the bags when people come for their meals, come for the meals to take home, that's another way they can help," said Tripp.
Help organizers said they could use every day of the year.
"Need is always there, it's not just in the holiday season, need is always around," said Tripp.
A reminder that taking a few moments out to volunteer, can make all the difference.
