RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) -
Students at Rib Mountain Elementary School have two reasons to smile on Tuesday; they completed a fundraising drive to help victims of Superstorm Sandy, and then watched a teacher shave his head.
5th grade teacher Brad Schmicker told students he would shave his head if they raised $500 for Brooklyn Elementary School, PS 15.
They dwarfed that amount, raising more than $1,600 in one week.
Schmicker spoke to PS 15's secretary Tuesday morning, and says they only reopened the school on Monday.
"When you think that we're raising it for a school, but the same kind of damage happened to families that attend that school, you start really seeing how big this storm was and how many people it affected," Schmicker says.
Some teachers from PS 15 watched Tuesday's assembly through an iPad via facetime.
