Wisconsin potato growers helping storm victims

Wisconsin potato growers are sending a shipment of spuds to the East Coast.

The Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association will send two semi-trucks, carrying a total of 80,000 pounds of potatoes to a warehouse called City Harvest in Long Island City, NY.

According to a press release, each truck holds 20 pallets of potatoes that weigh about 2,000 lbs. each.  Both trucks carry a market value of $40,000.

The potato growers say the food will be given to people still without power and need help. John Hein of Sowinski Farms in Rhinelander thought of the donation idea. He says he hopes these potatoes provide several meals to those who are working hard to return to "normalcy."

The trucks will leave our area on Monday, November 26th and are expected to arrive in New York on the 28th.
