Storm damage won't damper area tradition

Leader in Merrill say they're not letting storm damage stop them from enjoying an annual tradition.

Every year the trees in front of the courthouse are decorated for Merrill's annual holiday parade. But, after a tornado in 2011, and several other strong storms, many trees were destroyed.

That's why the Chamber of Commerce started the Adopt-A-Tree program. 16 trees now lie on the courthouse lawn for local businesses to adopt and decorate.

"The Adopt-A-Tree program has really pulled the community together," Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce said. "A lot of businesses have jumped on board and now people can wander around the courthouse lawn and take a look at decorations not just lights."

City officials say they trees must be decorated by Monday. The unveiling will be held during the annual holiday parade December 1st.
