Wausau church makes a difference this Thanksgiving

The work started hours before as volunteers put on the finishing touches.

"Worked on the cranberries and everything else that needed to be done, stripping turkeys," said Melissa Quintanilla.

Getting the turkey, stuffing and every other piece of the Friend's Dinner ready to go.

"We got them put in right away just because everybody was like yeah I want to help and I want to get it done," said Quintanilla.

Volunteers of all ages joined in at the First Presbyterian Church in Wausau.

They said they had one mission: to make a difference.

"Just the smiles, on people's faces and they wanted to give us hugs," said Carrie Paiser.

Organizers said this year, they delivered meals to 375 people and fed about 140 people at the church.

"This is a record number this year, we cooked 34 turkeys this year," said Stephen Wright.

The meal was a true feast, for everyone looking for a place to spend their Thanksgiving.

"It's also about including people who might not have family or might not have anyone else with whom to share a meal on the holidays," said Wright.

Organizers said it wouldn't be possible without all of the help.

"The kids have been here overnight, they've been here since eight o'clock last night getting turkeys ready, setting tables, getting all of the food set up," said Wright.

A chance to reach out and share their blessings.

"I think it's important just so that people understand that, there are people willing to help," said Wendy Oas.

Bringing our community together this holiday season.
