WAUSAU (WAOW) -
There was a lot of excitement for some runners in Wausau Thursday morning.
The third annual Eastbay Turkey Trot kicked off with nearly 1,500 runners, walkers and joggers.
The 5K took participants through the streets of Wausau, all to help local families in need.
"In 2011, with just over a thousand people, twenty-thousand dollars was able to buy about 58,000 pounds of food," said Jenny Jost.
Organizers said with an even larger turn out, they hope to raise about $30,000 dollars this year.
All of the money raised will be donated to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.
