Tourism means big business in Wisconsin. State leaders recently reported tourism pumped more than $10 billion dollars into the state economy. Wausau area leaders want to make sure they get their piece of the pie.
The Wausau/ Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the 2012 Tourism Summit at the Jefferson Street Inn. It brought together business and government leaders. They talked about events they hold and developing partnerships to promote events.
The Board of Directors for the Wausau/CWCVB will meet to set goals for its members and develop regional promotions. The members are working with Bill Geist of Zeitgeist Consulting. Geist says, "The region is known as a winter vacation destination. But now, it is also a summer travel spot. With assets like Granite Peak and Whitewater Park and the soon-to-open curling center and soccer fields, it is a year-round destination."
Geist says there are endless opportunities for promotion to increase the number of visitors to the area, which will ultimately pump millions of dollars into the area economy.
