340 Special Olympians will participate in this weekends Northern State Bowling Tournament at Dale's Weston Lanes, Saturday, December 1, 2012.
120 coaches and 250 volunteers are also expected to be on hand.
Local organizers say the competitors have been practicing for the past 8-12 weeks. Jerry Lyon, Regional Sports Director for the Special Olympics, says, "This is the culmination of all of their hard work. "
Event organizers at Dale's Weston Lanes says the tournament is a boost for their business but others in the area as well. Sarah Dickinson says, "All of those athletes come surrounded by family, coaches and volunteers. Those people need hotels and restaurants, so those businesses benefit as well.
In January, the Wausau area will host even more Special Olympian's as it is the host city for the Wisconsin Special Olympic Winter Games.
