WAUSAU (WAOW) -
The Salvation Army needs more money and volunteers.
Leaders say the annual Red Kettle campaign in Marathon County hasn't brought in as much money as they need, and they've had to pay more people to ring bells because fewer people have volunteered.
As of earlier this week, the holiday fundraiser was only about a third of the way to its goal of raising $160,000. Just $46,645 had been raised.
"We have until Christmas Eve to reach the rest of our goal, so that puts it at quite a high sum of money that needs to come in each day to be able to reach our goal," said Lt. Jacob Tripp.
He says the campaign needs to bring in about $5,000 a day to make its goal, but its daily totals are falling several thousand dollars short.
If you'd like to volunteer as a bell ringer, call the Salvation Army volunteer coordinator at 715-845-4272, extension 106. You can also donate money at any red kettle in the area.
