The National Weather Service has extended the Dense Fog Advisory until noon for Marathon, Wood, Portage, Lincoln, Vilas, Oneida, Langlade, Forest, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara and Florence Counties.
Areas of dense fog have settled in the region, reducing visibilities to below a quarter mile at times. Motorists should keep aware even counties outside of the advisory are experiencing dense fog.
As of 8:15 a.m. visibilities were reported as .13 miles in Mosinee, .25 miles in Stevens Point, Marshfield and Merrill, and .5 miles in Medford, Eagle River, Wisconsin Dells and Rhinelander.
Drivers should use extreme caution when driving and avoid using their high beams. Low headlight beams reflect less light, making it easier to see. Attention should also be paid to the distance between cars on the roadways, and for children waiting for their school bus.
A cold front is forecast to move across the region by late Monday and should clear out much of the fog and low clouds that have hung over the region for several days.
