Local ice rinks need snow to open

Mother Nature will have to cooperate to get outdoor ice rinks up and running. Marathon Co. Parks and Recreation say colder temperatures and some snow need to head our way soon.

Parks officials say they hope to open rinks by Christmas. Last year, most didn't open until January, and because of a mild winter, it was a short season.

“It does help downtown business, it’s an attraction. Our city rinks are free, we don’t charge for the city rinks,” Marathon Co. Parks and Rec. Operator Superintendent Ken Krueger said.
