Second candidate jumps in the race for State Superintendent

A second candidate has jumped into the race for State Superintendent of Education.

Republican State Representative Don Pridemore announced his candidacy Monday. He's running against Tony Evers, who's held the position since 2009.

Pridemore is on a statewide bus tour campaigning. He made a stop in Wausau on Monday to talk about the race.

And Evers is responding to his new opponent.

"I witnessed the leaders of our schools being frustrated with too many unnecessary programs ... too many mandates and too many special interest groups all at the expense of Wisconsin kids," said State Representative, Don Pridemore.

"I don't think my record is at all in question on this issue, we've worked hard to make sure we have quality in our schools," said State Superintendent, Tony Evers.

The election takes place April 2nd. Officials say if a third candidate joins the race there will be a primary election in February.
