Local teens help holiday dreams come true

Since he was nine years old, Noah Lamaide has made a life of helping people.

"It makes me feel good to help people," the now 13-year-old Stevens Point boy said.

In February, Noah raised more than $10,000 to save his grandmother's home from foreclosure. The story gained national attention. But, Noah didn't let the fame go to his head. Now, he's using that recognition to do more.

"A lot of people know about me so it makes it easier to collect, and to get the word out," Noah said.

With the help of his friends Noah started a food and gift drive. They call it, "Help Holiday Dreams Come True" food and gift drive. Their goal, to collect toys and canned good for families who can't afford them.

"It feels really good to be apart of," 7th grader Tim Shulfer said.

"It's heartwarming to know that kids are going to get a present at Christmas," Jacob Ferro chimed in.

So far, the group says the response has been overwhelming.

"It makes me feel like there's more people than just me who think that everyone should get a present on Christmas," Noah said.

But while they have a strong support system, Noah and his friends are also leaning on a local food pantry for help. All the donations will go to Operation Bootstrap, a non-profit that helps hundreds of needy families every year. From there, the donations will be distributed across Portage County.

"They can reach more people than I could," Noah said.

Bootstrap leaders say those donations make a big difference.

"We need that community involvement or we couldn't go on," Director Roseann DuBot said.

And Noah says that's the goal. It's not about getting more attention, but making other lives happier this holiday season.

Non-perishable food and toy donations can be dropped of at one of the following locations:
