UPDATE: The State Fire Marshal's office has concluded their investigation into the fire. Weston Fire Department officials said they have determined the fire was not suspicious.

Authorities said from the insurance company officials are taking over the investigation to find the cause of the fire, but said there is no time frame for how long that may take.

The Weston Fire Department Chief told Newsline 9 the fire is a total loss.

Authorities say several departments started battling a large fire at a strip mall on Stone Ridge Drive in Weston around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say the fire spread across the ceiling of the strip mall, leading to between three and four separate fires throughout the structure. They say the fire caused the roof of the building to collapse. They also tell us that there was only one active business inside of the strip mall, a Subway restaurant.

Weston Fire officials said there were people inside of the building when the fire started, but all evacuated safely and there were no injuries. However, the Weston Fire Chief says one firefighter did break his ankle after slipping on some ice while fighting the fire.

The Weston Fire Chief tells Newsline 9 he expects the building sustained more than one million dollars worth of damage. The building is a total loss.

The State Fire Marshall was on scene Sunday assessing the damage and working with crews to try and determine the cause of the fire.

Five different fire departments responded to the blaze on Saturday night to help contain it. Fire officials say it took several hours to put the fire out.
