Significant snowfall making roads slick

It's the season's first big snowfall and with it come slick roads.

"There'll be a few, probably a few people that spin out, you always see them," said Josh Duwe.

Duwe lives in Wausau and he does plenty of driving.

"The roads have been slippery at times, especially when they get wet when the temperature falls below 32 degrees," said Duwe.

State Patrol officials said drivers need to remember: things change quickly.

"It's been pretty decent up to this point, snow is starting to come down now, I think that conditions will deteriorate," said Sgt. Travis Wanless.

As the snow piles up on the roads, State Patrol officials said they'll be watching closely.

"As road conditions do deteriorate, we do expect to see more crashes and slide-ins," said Wanless.

Highway maintenance crews also said they're prepared.

"We've got 36 trucks that will be manning out on the road," said Dan Raczkowski.

"We'll probably be upgrading staff a little bit and keeping our trucks out a little later than we normally do," said Raczkowski.

But drivers like Duwe said even with crews out, it's still important to be careful.

"We always think it's not going to be one of us, but then it all of the sudden turns quickly," said Duwe.
