Man sentenced on drug charges in heroin death

The man accused in a fatal drug overdose case in Marathon County will spend 15 years behind bars.

27-year-old Tyshun Meeks was charged with nine felony counts, including reckless homicide.

Last year, police say Meeks was one of several people that supplied the fatal does of heroin to a Mosinee man.

In court on Monday, Meeks pleaded "no contest" to six drug charges and a misdemeanor bail jumping charge. His lawyer asked the judge for probation and education. But, a judge denied the defense request and sentenced Meeks to 15 years behind bars on those charges.

In court, the judge said confinement was necessary to protect the public.

As for the remaining charges, including reckless homicide, Meeks has requested a jury trial. A trial date not yet been set.
