Matt Canada to leave Wisconsin

Wisconsin's offensive coordinator Matt Canada is leaving Wisconsin to become the offensive coordinator at North Carolina State. Canada will join former UW defensive coordinator Dave Doeren, who took over as the Wolfpack's head coach a few weeks ago.

Doeren also hired Canada as his offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois back in 2011.

When Canada came to Wisconsin in January, he made it clear it was a destination job for him. But the truth is, whoever takes over as the Badgers' head coach will have his pick of assistants, which means Canada could be out of a job.

So he's taking matters into his own hands and heading to the Wolfpack.

Canada hasn't said for sure when he plans to leave, but last week he made it sound like he and all the assistant coaches do plan to coach the Badgers in the Rose Bowl

"I'm proud of what we've done - don't want to minimize that. I think what we've accomplished - we owe it to each other -- players to players, coaches to coaches -- to finish it up," said Canada in practice last week.

We've got a job to do; we're going to finish our job and obviously there's other things going on... my children are number 1 on my mind and making sure we take care of them, but certainly we're focused on going to the Rose Bowl and winning a game."

The players are reacting with an understanding mindset while also feeling some disappointment.

After the news broke Montee Ball said, "I wasn't shocked because of the unknown on if they stay. When the other head coach comes in they don't know if they'll have a job or not so I don't blame him at all."

Badger quarterback Joel Stave weighed in on the matter saying, "Yeah, I'm disappointed because I liked playing for him. I thought he was a really good coach and I thought he had a good offense. But that's how this business works."
