Firefighters from three different departments spent the night fighting a fire in a metal structure on County Road F in Berlin.

The Town of Maine Fire Chief says the call came in at about 9:30 p.m. Monday night. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from inside the building.

He told Newsline 9 the metal shed was used for storage and there was also an apartment built inside. No one was home when the fire started.

He says two dogs were able to escape once the fire broke out.

Crews had to use caution when fighting the fire because it spread inside the building. They used machinery to tear down a part of the metal structure to try and put out flames in the small apartment inside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire chief says the building was destroyed.
