Salvation Army provides toys for needy families

More than 2,000 children will have a very merry Christmas thanks to the Salvation Army and Toys for Tots.

The group held its annual toy distribution on Monday in Wausau.

Organizers said about 450 families received toys for their children through the program. The toys are donated by community members and local companies.

"I have been here before needing help, needing the Christmas assistance when my girls were little so I know how much it helps and how great it feels to be able to receive it and give your children a Christmas when you know you wouldn't be able to any other way," Lt. Melinda Tripp said.

Popular gifts this year included Monster High dolls for girls and legos for boys.
