Wausau City Council approves Animal Control Program

Wausau City Council approved the Animal Control Program tonight.

The program will provide two full time animal control officers...for Wausau and surrounding areas in Marathon Count. The Council passed the resolution ten to one. Members of the council argue whether sending officers outside of Wausau would take attention away from issues in town.  David Oberbeck, a member of the Wausau City Council said "I still have concerns about this, limiting it to the metro area, twenty miles from Wausau is a great distance to serve with a limited staff."

But Wausau City Council member Lisa Rasmussen disagrees. "I think it's an important chance for us to step up and be the leader in a very positive way and build bridges with other areas," Rasmussen commented.

The program will begin in July 2013. The Council also voted to change the amount of pets allowed in a residency, from two dogs and three cats to five combined pets.
