Governor Walker declares State of Emergency ahead of winter storm

Posted:

MADISON (WAOW) - Governor Scott Walker declared a State of Emergency in Wisconsin ahead of the upcoming winter storm, according to a press release.

Heavy snowfall and strong winds are forecasted across the state beginning Wednesday night. The storm already dumped more than a foot of snow in the Rocky Mountains.

The Executive Order readies the Wisconsin Emergency Management, the Wisconsin National Guard, the State Patrol and other Wisconsin state agencies in case they are needed.

"I issued this executive order to make sure Wisconsin is prepared for whatever this winter storm may bring," Governor Walker is quoted as saying in a press release.  "Mobilizing our state agency resources during this storm will ensure we leave nothing to chance when it comes to protecting the citizens of Wisconsin."

Meanwhile, drivers in Iowa and Nebraska are being warned to be careful or stop driving altogether starting Wednesday evening as the storm makes its way into the central Plains. Strong winds are expected to create blizzard conditions. That storm is expected to reach southern and central Wisconsin late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
