Snow slows morning commute

The snow started in Rib Mountain this morning around 1:30 a.m. By 5 a.m., there was more than three inches of snow.

Few people could be found on the roads early this morning. Plows came through about 3:30 a.m. By close to 7 a.m., more than six inches of snow had fallen in the Wausau area.

Many students were home from school due to cancellations, but the morning commute still saw a fair number of drivers.

Safety officials are warning, that if you don't have to go outside today, to stay inside. Allow plows to clear roads throughout the day.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department told Newsline 9 that wind could play a dangerous role later on during the day. Officials say the wind could downgrade conditions on roads at a rapid rate.
