Christmas day is here in central Wisconsin. It's a day of opening presents, drinking eggnog and spending time with the family.
Many people have their own traditions, but others were looking for something else to do. And considering its Christmas day, that was quite a challenge.
Sharon and Eugene Olson were looking to share a traditional Christmas meal. So they went to IHOP in Rib Mountain, one of the few places open on Christmas day.
"Most places usually aren't open, just a few are on Christmas day," said Wausau resident, Sharon Olson.
Sharon says Christmas Eve is the day she spends time with the family, and Christmas day is a time to relax.
"I didn't feel like cooking today," said Olson.
But the Olson's weren't the only ones looking for somewhere to go on Christmas day.
"We had a lot of people here, it's Christmas and people are celebrating the holiday together, and we had a lot of people thank us for being open," said Vicki Baumann, the general manager at Granite Peak Ski Hill.
Many hit the slopes at Granite Peak in Rib Mountain. On a day managers say was "perfect."
"We always open Christmas day because people like to come here and ski on the holiday," said Baumann.
But an even bigger crowd went to the movies.
"We did presents this morning than breakfast, and now we're here, nothing is open and there are a lot of movies," said Wausau resident, Britta Wipperfurth.
Managers at the Marcus Cedar Creek Cinema in Rothschild say the release of six new films brought a great turnout.
"Other businesses are closed on Christmas day so people come here," said Jonathan Jolin, Marcus Cinema assistant manager.
Watching a movie wasn't on the Olson's list for things to do on Christmas day, but grabbing a meal was.
One of many ways people decided to spend this special day.
