Getting a safe ride home on New Year's Eve

Posted:

Police want to remind you to celebrate the New Year safely.

Many bars in Wausau will offer a safe ride home tonight. It was started by the Tavern League of Marathon County.

The taxi service is a free way to get people back home, without getting behind the wheel.

"It's important to plan ahead, have a designated driver, or have the option to have a safe ride home so you don't drive home intoxicated, causing a danger to yourself and everybody else on the roadway," said Wausau Police Lt. Nathan Pekarske.

The service is free, but not every bar is participating. That's why it's important to ask bar employees ahead of time.
