A 40 year old Illinois woman died after a snowmobile crash in Vilas County on New Year's Eve.
According to a sheriff's department press release, the department received a call about a crash at about 7:19pm Monday in the Town of St. Germain. Officers say a woman rolled down an embankment. She received CPR at the scene and was taken to Howard Young Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at the medical center.
The Wisconsin DNR and Vilas County Sheriff's Department investigated the crash. They say the woman was the only rider on a snowmobile. They say she failed to negotiate a curve, went off the trail and down the embankment. The snowmobile rolled several times. They say the weight of the machine on top of the woman caused internal injuries. They say alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor. The crash is still under investigation.
The name of the woman is being held as authorities notify her family. She was from Morton, IL.
