Racing fans packed State Park Speedway in Rib Mountain Saturday. It was the first day of the racing season and a chance for fans to remember racing icon, Dick Trickle. People at the track observed a moment of silence for Trickle. He died Thursday in an apparent suicide at the age of 71. About55 people gathered to jump into the ice-cold water. The eventbenefits the Children's Miracle Network. Since 1998, it's raised morethan $200,000 for the organization.
“Welove having the bystanders come and cheer people on,” said IileePederson, annual giving coordinator for CMN. "I think thatreally makes a difference when people are jumping. So we definitelydid have a big crowd and hopefully next year we'll have even morejumpers as well.”
