WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -
The Keep the Wreath Green campaign in Wood County has ended.
During the holidays, that county saw an increase in fires.
Wood County fire officials said there were 11 fires in the
county between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
That's five more than last year.
Fire officials told Newsline 9 the hustle and bustle of the
holidays can cause people to forget about fire safety.
"We have too much on our plate. Family and friends are
coming over. It's very easy to just take the easy way out because I've got 20
different things I've got to get done," said Deputy Chief Robert Haight of the
Marshfield Fire Department.
Of the 11 fires this holiday season, four were electrical.
Fire officials said they will make that main focus of this
year's prevention campaign.
