State Rep. Donna Seidel (D-Wausau) has resigned her seat in the state assembly, just days before her term would have expired.
Seidel submitted her letter of resignation to Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald's office on December 12. Newsline 9 obtained a copy of the letter. In it, Seidel said "It has been a pleasure to serve the people of the 85th Assembly District for the last 8 years."
Seidel's resignation was effective December 28. Her term would have ended January 7.
The official legislative website for the 85th Assembly district shows Seidel's picture, but lists the office as "vacant." That district covers Wausau and other areas in Marathon County.
It's unclear why Seidel chose to resign rather than wait out her term. A staffer in Seidel's Madison office said Seidel was unavailable for further comment.
Seidel chose not to run for re-election after deciding to run for the 29th State Senate seat in the recall election. She lost to State Sen. Jerry Petrowski.
State Rep. Tamara Grigsby (D-Milwaukee) also resigned her seat to take another job, according to the speaker's office.
