STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -
UW-Stevens Point's basketball teams started the new year with victories as both men's and women's squads defeated UW-River Falls on Thursday night.
The men's team won 82-65 after taking a 12-point lead midway through the second half. The Pointers scored 49 points in the first half, the most scored by the team in any half this season.
Four players scored in double digits and the Pointers remained undefeated at home this season.
They travel to Eau Claire for an afternoon match up with the Blu Golds on Saturday at 3PM.
The women's team overcame a 10-point deficit, defeating the Falcons, 75-66, in the second game of the doubleheader.
Sam Barber scored 20 points in the second half alone, and gave the Pointers the lead with a jumper seven minutes into the second half.
The Lady Pointers will also take on UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, with tip-off at 5PM.
