Investigators search for source of fatal fire in Mosinee

Neighbors and authorities were stunned by the flames coming from a Mosinee home on Moon Road Sunday night.

"Just unbelievable," said Neighbor, Jennifer Hansen.

"When the units left the station, they were able to see the glow in the sky from the fire already," said Mosinee Fire Chief, Josh Klug.

Marathon County Sheriffs  and Mosinee Firefighters were first on the scene.

"The amount of fire in there indicated that for the safety of our crew, we were going to have to stay outside on a defensive attack," said Klug.

Fire officials said one man was inside the house, he died. But officials haven't identified him yet.

"They are going to be doing a full autopsy of the victim to determine cause of death," said Klug.

Neighbors said the scene was devastating.

"You could see all the frame, that was it, everything else was fire," said Hansen.

Many of them rushed to get help.

"It was huge, so I got out my phone, called 911 right away," said Hansen.

Now, the State Fire Marshal is involved in the investigation, trying to determine what caused the fire.

"They did their investigation as well, and at this time it's simply undetermined," said Klug.
