ADAMS COUNTY (WAOW) -
A fire at a building in Adams County is out, and traffic is moving again, fire officials said.
The fire happened Wednesday evening at an unoccupied building on Highway 13 at Big Horn Avenue in Adams County, said Dick Meyers, Town of Big Flats fire chief. He said the property owner started a wood burner in the building about an hour before the fire started, although it's unclear why.
Meyers said the building is still standing, but about a third of it is destroyed. There is smoke damage throughout the building, Meyers said.
It took crews several hours to put out the fire.
"It was going pretty good," Meyers told Newsline 9. He said no one was hurt.
All lanes were blocked on Highway 13 while crews fought the fire, and traffic was diverted. Meyers said all lanes are open again.
Incidentally, this is the second time this building has caught fire, Meyers said, although the last time it happened was years ago.
