We're
learning more about the redevelopment plan in Rothschild.
Newsline 9
sat down with the Rothschild Village President on Friday. He says the village
needs to make changes to survive in the future.
But the plan
to bring new store fronts, businesses and apartments to the area has some
residents upset.
The area,
targeted for redevelopment, includes several neighborhoods. And some residents
are against the plan, and worry they'll be forced to move. City leaders say
they aren't kicking anyone out of their homes in this 20 year plan.
"We have
to do what we can to prop up the value of those homes so that it stays there," said George Peterson, Rothschild Village President. "So that it doesn't develop into blighted property.
And then they lose their value."
The village
board is expected to vote on this plan later this month. Peterson says he
believes it will pass.
