Despite the controversy surrounding Lance Armstrong, the Livestrong program he founded to help cancer survivors, continues to thrive. The Woodson YMCA offers Livestrong exercise programs at both its Wausau and Aspirus locations.
Woodson Executive Director, Bryan Bailey says, "We are now at the end of our second year with 40 participants. The first year we had less than 20. So, it continues to grow. It is a great program."
Membership Director, Sara Pinsonneault adds, "We are hoping to get more people involved. You do not have to be a Y member. This is a free program to anyone who is a cancer survivor. All you have to do is sign up. Y staff members who have undergone Livestrong training, with a focus on the needs of cancer survivors, will work with you to design an exercise program that benefits you."
The Woodson Y's just started new 12 week, small group programs, which run through March 28, 2013. The Wausau branch offers daytime sessions Monday and Thursday from 1:15-2:30. The Aspirus branch sessions are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:15.
