Cold causing numerous closings and delays

The Wausau School District will close all its schools on Tuesday due to extreme cold, district officials said. Extra-curricular and evening activities will also be canceled that day.

This is one of several closings and delays in north-central Wisconsin. DC Everest School District will be closed Tuesday as well, as will districts in Rhinelander and Merrill.

Earlier Monday, administrators at DC Everest explained what goes into the decision to close school.

"What we're most concerned about is kids standing outside, waiting for the school bus and being exposed to these winds for a significant period of time," said Aaron Nelson, DC Everest Supervisor of Administrative Services.
