Parks Department: Skate skiing and skating opens this weekend

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) - The Marathon County Parks Department announced Friday that Nine Mile Forest Recreation Area will open at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release

The trails are only being groomed for cross-country skate skiing.

According to Operations Superintendent Ken Krueger, Nine Mile received three and a half inches of light, fluffy snow and the trails are in fair condition.

Additionally, the outdoor ice rink and hockey rink at Riverview School will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Hours for the Riverview rink and the 400 Block rink downtown are 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sundays.

According to the release, both rinks have lights for night skating and there are warming houses however any time the temperature falls to -20 or lower, the rinks will close.
