Day one of racing is in the books at this year's Wausau 525 event, and the top three finishers in last weekend's World Championship derby made the podium again in the Champ 440 race.
This time, it was Wausau native Matt Schulz taking the top spot. A redemption win for him after a third place finish in Eagle River.
Jordan Wahl finished in second place and the 2013 World Champion, Malcolm Chartier, placed third.
Overall, it was a great day for Schulz, who won his heat in the morning and came up with the same qualifying time as Tomahawk's Nick Van Strydonk, who once again did not make the podium.
"Well it's a big confidence boost. The sleds are running good and everything and guys are working hard so it definitely helps," said Schulz.
"If you get a bad day, you'd have to try and rebuild overnight but get some sleep tonight and be back ready in the morning. And hopefully we can do it again. We've won four times on Saturday and we never got a win on Sunday so hopefully we can get one and keep it in Wausau."
Today's race sets up what should be an interesting TLR Cup final tomorrow when the top competitors take to the oval again.
