NC fish story and fight over prize will get trial

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -

A big fish story and the decision to take away a $910,000 prize from the boat crew that landed a monster marlin are going to get a full hearing in a North Carolina court.

The state's Supreme Court ruled Friday that a trial is needed to sort out whether one of the country's richest deep-sea fishing tournaments was right to strip first place from the crew of the charter boat Citation because the mate lacked a $15 North Carolina fishing license.

The Citation's crew landed a blue marlin weighing 883 pounds and measuring 14 feet in the 2010 Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.

The Supreme Court heard arguments in the case less than three weeks ago and decided quickly the case shouldn't have been summarily dismissed by a judge.
