Rothschild redevelopment plan approved

Rothschild leaders have approved plans to begin a controversial redevelopment project.

The village board voted unanimously tonight to move forward with the Rothschild Pavilion marketplace plan.

Village leaders say the 15-million dollar project will help improve the area near the shopko plaza and attract new businesses and residential housing.

But some homeowners say they shouldn't have to move to make it happen. Village leaders say they won't force people out of their homes.

"This is market driven. It's not driven by the village. It's driven by the market demand."

Homeowners we talked to didn't want to go on camera, but said they're disappointed in how the village is going about the plan.

Village leaders told newsline 9 this is a long-term project that will be completed over the course of several decades.
