WAUSAU (WAOW) _ A Wausau businessman accused of stealing $1 million in mortgage money from homeowners has pleaded not guilty to 25 charges.

Jay Fischer, 52, is accused of racketeering, embezzlement, fraud and tax crimes and entered the pleas during an appearance in Marathon County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Fischer's company, Valley Title, helped homeowners refinance mortgages but Fischer never paid off eight of them.

No trial date was immediately set.
