An open house is underway at a new warming center in Wausau. It will officially open Friday evening, but Catholic Charities and the United Way of Marathon County gave the general public a sneak peek Tuesday night.
Diane Borchardt of Catholic Charities say the center will provide shelter for up to 15 people each night along with a warm evening meal and a light breakfast.
The shelter in the St. Paul Community Center is open to anyone who needs a place to stay overnight, male or female. Supervisors say this shelter differs from others because people with alcohol or drug problems will not be turned away, as long as they are not disruptive.
Volunteers are still needed to staff the center during the overnight hours.
