A week after it was so cold a popular ice rink closed, today it was so warm another one had to shut down.
Wisconsin Rapids parks and rec officials said the pond at Witter Field looked more like a swimming pool than an ice rink today.
This comes just days after subzero temperatures shut down Pickle Pond in Marshfield due to safety concerns.
Wisconsin Rapids officials say the unusual weather this winter has kept a lot of people off the ice.
“Obviously, kids can’t skate when there’s water sitting on top, and we even had grass and dirt that were coming through because we didn’t have a lot of base put down due to the weather,” said Mary Wolosek, Wisconsin Rapids recreation supervisor.
City recreation leaders said they hope to reopen the pond at Witter Field on Thursday.
