Snow makes for messy morning commute

The morning commute was a messy one in Portage County. The Stevens Point area saw snowfall around 4 a.m.

State Patrol told Newsline 9 it's fully staffed today, preparing for the worst. Road crews head out as soon as the snow hit the ground.

By around 6 a.m., about one inch of snow accumulated on the ground. It was thick, heavy snow, and highway officials say it's that kind of snow that makes for a rough morning commute.

State Patrol officials say their usual enforcement role is changed when severe weather strikes. More troopers are out on the roadways, helping anyone who may get stuck.
