Alexander House showcases art and history

Posted:

The Alexander House, 1131 Wisconsin River Dr., Port Edwards, has two purposes.  The first is to showcase artwork.  The second is to keep a small tradition in Wood County alive.

Currently showcasing the encaustic beeswax artwork of Stevens Point native Jessie Fritsch, the center features a series of art exhibits throughout the year.  In doing so, the center's directors say it is keeping a piece of Wood County history alive.

In the days of the former Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company, the founding families of this once major employer often featured art exhibits connecting with the community in their headquarters.

Though the company as it was originally built no longer exists, the Alexander House is carrying on that small tradition in the name of those philanthropic families by displaying various art features through the year, and preserving historic artifacts from the former company.

Admission to the center is free.  It is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.  Admission is free.
