Governor Scott Walker made a stop in our area Thursday.
During his visit to the Wausau Municipal Airport, he commented on Wausau Paper's decision to sell three of its mills.
Those mills are in Mosinee, Rhinelander and Minnesota.
The governor says he'll try his best to keep those mills around because they are vital to North Central Wisconsin.
"I will be reaching out next week following up with another phone call at a subsequent meeting with the leadership and try to get a hang on what the next steps are, we want to be able to get on top of this and we want to do everything in our power to make sure that both of those sites stay open and that they stay here in North Central Wisconsin, they are vital not only to this region but to the whole state," said Walker.
The governor says he's continued to reach out to the leaders at Wausau Paper. He says he hopes to meet with them sometime next week.
