Thousands of fans bid Driver farewell

GREEN BAY (WAOW) -
Tammy Schreiner thought just being at Donald Driver's retirement announcement would be the highlight of her year.

"It was wonderful, it was epic, I wouldn't have given it up for anything," Schreiner said.

That is until she got to meet him.

"I can't believe that just happened..a hug! I got a hug!"

Schreiner was one of hundreds of fans that packed the atrium at Lambeau Field to wish Driver farewell. But, being apart of this special event didn't come easy.

Last week, thousands of people stood in line in the freezing cold temperatures hoping to get their hands on tickets.

"I called my mother and said when are we going, how early do we go, we have to be here for this because it is that special," Packers fans Jessica Zeitler said.

And during his announcement, Driver thanked them for their support.

"You stood out in the cold to take part in this with me," Driver said. "You guys are crazy!"

Crazy? Maybe. But, these fans say for Donald Driver it was all worth it.

"This whole day is something I won't forget," Zeitler said.

Emotions ran high as Driver gave one final goodbye. Even the fans couldn't help but fight back the tears.

"I bawled like a baby," Zeitler said.

While Driver will no longer be dancing in the end zone, fans say they hope this farewell isn't forever.

"I'd love to see him on the sidelines in same way, shape, or form," Zeitler said.

It's safe to say, many fans feel the same way, especially Schreiner.

"Everyone respects him, everybody looks up to him, he's Donald," Schreiner said.
