MARATHON (WAOW) -
The snowfall had crews working highways and side roads, as the evening commute continued. The snow started to come down in Central Wisconsin in the early afternoon on Wednesday.
Road crews were out right away, salting side streets and highways. But cars were still slipping and sliding across the road, causing some car crashes throughout the day.
Highway department crews say even though we're in the middle of winter, there's some things to keep in mind.
"Please remember, when you're out there driving, it's a community event. Slow down, give our plows plenty of room, and give the people around you plenty of room and plan on leaving a little early," Marathon County Highway Department Operations Manager Dan Raczkowski said.
Highway officials say crews will be out until about 10 p.m. on Wednesday and will head out again in the morning on Thursday.
