MADISON (WAOW) - Seven area schools are among 65 that the state Department of Public Instruction has recognized for progress in academic achievement.

The Wisconsin Reward School honors are for so-called Title I schools, or those with high numbers of students from low-income families based on free or reduced-priced school lunches, state Supt. Tony Evers said in a statement Thursday.

Schools on the list met the state's participation, attendance and dropout goals, showed progress in reading and mathematics and made improvement in closing so-called college and career-readiness gaps.

The list included 55 elementary schools, four high schools, five charter schools and one intermediate school.

According to Evers, schools on the list in central and northern Wisconsin are:

  • Grand Marsh Elementary in Adams-Friendship
  • Fremont Elementary in Weyauwega-Fremont
  • Florence Elementary in Florence County
  • Pleasant View Elementary in Pine River
  • Wild Rose Elementary in Wild Rose
  • Ogema Elementary School near Prentice
  • Prentice Elementary School in Prentice
