MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -
The Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth presented Marshfield
Police with a check to help support their canine unit.
The group raised more than $11,000 in two events: a softball
benefit that Newsline 9 played in last summer and a pizza fundraiser in
December.
Members of the Marshfield Youth Initiatives said they're
happy to help the community.
"It feels good. You know, it's been a two year project, and
you know, the youth are a pretty prevalent part of our community. We have a large
high school basis, and I think the drug dog will really help them out," said
Nathan Borchardt, a Marshfield Youth Initiatives member.
Marshfield Police said the canine unit is valuable in
helping keep drugs out of the community. Officials said the money will be used
to train dogs and maintain the program.
