WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -
A Wisconsin Rapids Church is joining in the fight to help end hunger in the community.
On Saturday, the city will hold its first Empty Bowls fundraiser at First English Lutheran Church. For $10, people can get a soup lunch and keep the bowl it comes in.
Event organizers said the proceeds will go to feeding people in the Wisconsin Rapids community.
"Someone's bowl is always empty someplace. People go to bed without anything to eat, and it's not just in third world countries. It's in our country. It's in our neighborhoods," said Chris Grimes, First English Lutheran Church community outreach chair.
The event runs from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. Organizers said they hope to sell all 230 bowls they have for the event.
